The Different Types Of Love

Contents

Eros

Love

Eros is the most difficult type of love to define. Unlike other types of love, which are often codified and represented by specific emotions or actions, eros is more of an ideal. It is the kind of love that is perfect and all-consuming, the type of love that people often write about in poems and songs. While eros can certainly be physical, it goes beyond simple attraction.

Rather, it is a deep and passionate longing for something you may never attain. In this way, people often compare eros to the Greek concept of requited love. It can give us a glimpse of what true happiness might look like, even if we never manage to reach that point ourselves. For this reason, eros can sometimes be bittersweet. We might ache for something that we can never have, but in doing so, we also come to appreciate the beauty of love itself.

Agape

Love

Agape love is the highest form of love. It is selfless, unconditional love for others. This type of love is not based on what the other person does or doesn’t do or how the other person makes us feel. Agape love is simply a choice to love someone no matter what.

This type of love requires us to set aside our selfish desires and put the needs of others first. It is a sacrificial love that often asks us to do things that are difficult or even painful. But true agape love is always worth it because it can change lives – both our own and those of the people we love.

Philia

Love

Philia is a form of love often described as “brotherly love.” It is a deep and enduring affection for someone, usually based on a strong sense of camaraderie or shared experiences. In some cases, philia love can be platonic, but it can also be romantic.

What sets philia apart from other forms of love, such as eros or agape, is that it does not involve sexual desire. Instead, it focuses on the two people’s deep emotional connection. As a result, philia love is often seen as one of the purest and most beautiful forms of love because it revolves around strong feelings of friendship and admiration.

What Is Love Then?

Love

What is love? It is an emotion that can be both exhilarating and devastating, often simultaneously. It can make us feel like we are on top of the world and bring us to our knees. Love is something that we all long for, and yet it can be so difficult to find. We may go through our whole lives searching for that one person who will make us feel complete, only to find that love is something we must give ourselves first.

So what is love, really? It is the light that guides us through the dark times and the warmth that reminds us we are not alone. It is a feeling that can never be fully put into words, but one that we all recognize nonetheless. Love is what makes us human.
